* join the pool competition if you prefer that (names down at 17.00, cash prize),
* be present when the bottle of wine draw is on (20.00),
* there will be a meat tray raffle sponsored by Portsmith Bulk Meats, drawn at 18:00 hours.
* there’s usually a bottle of rum raffle around 20.00 hours.
* depending on attendance, live music will be organised when possible.
* It’s licensed premises, NO BYO
To give you an inside look:
Our club feeds around 100 BBQ munchers each Friday. Volunteers make it all happen. Salads and meat get prepared with teamwork (mind you, salads are made fresh, meat gets prepared, marinated, even the mayonnaise is made fresh!).
Twilighters start dinner at 17.30, other people can line up after them. At 18.00 about 7 boat owners take their vessel out for a twilight sail, offering people a chance to experience a casual sail. We clean up with team effort, twilight boats get back before 20.00, raffle tickets are sold before and after. A bottle of wine draw (part of your BBQ ticket) takes place.
How to be part of the next BBQ?
Tickets get sold to members and visitors. To get meat well prepared and marinated it must be bought on Thursday, so it's easiest for us if you inform us before Thursday. At the clubhouse there is a nomination box (outside at the smokers’ area). Envelopes marked “BBQ” and BBQ nomination notes are provided. Just fill in your name and leave $5 p/p (members) and $10 p/p (non-members). Collect your ticket on Friday at the BBQ (don’t forget your membership card to get your discount). It is a licensed area so no BYO.
How to be part of the next casual twilight?
Free of charge but bookings must be made in advance to avoid disappointment. Mind you, we can organise a lot, but definitely not the weather or unforseen circumstances so keep in mind that the boat owner might have to decline at the last minute! The BBQ nomination notes give you the option to fill in yes/no Twilight. You don’t need experience, and young kids are welcome too. Just let us know the age so we can arrange suitable life jackets for them. On arrival at the club, check out the “Going Twilighting” list on the black board in the smokers’ area and introduce yourself to your skipper. Have dinner, kick your shoes off at the jetty at 18.00 when the boats leave and you’ll be back at 20.00. How easy is that??
PS Our Club does have Social Membership available for interested people. It costs $25 per financial year. That type of membership means:
- no voting rights
- no rights to keep a dinghy at the jetty
- no use of outside facilities (i.e. shower/toilet blocks)
- you’ll be kept informed regarding future events
- you’ll get the discount for the BBQ (5 BBQ’s and you’re even!)
Do something different, enjoy the Friday evening, come and check it out at the Squadron.
